Editor's review
As the oldest church in Amsterdam, the Oude Kerk (literally the Old Church) stands in the oldest area of the city called De Wallen, which happens to now also be home the red-light district. So while it may be somewhat awkwardly positioned, the Oude Kerk is arguably Amsterdams most distinguished house of worship. Some of its most prized features include a vaulted wooden ceiling (the largest of its kind in Europe), three pipe organs (where famed organist Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck played for much of his life), and several magnificent stained glass windows. The churchs tower is also available to visit in the summer months.
