With all the usual western European chains around central Amsterdam, you'd be forgiven for mistaking the place for just another standard shopping experience. But what makes Amsterdam special is all the more unusual markets and shops dotting its quieter streets, from antique dealers to galleries and retro fashion houses.
Make sure to visit the eastern canals in areas like Jordaan and the Nine Streets district for some of the city's most unique shops. For a traditional Amsterdam experience, don't miss De Bijenkorf department store and, of course, the famous Bloemnmarkt flower market.
