A great place to experience the everyday practicality of Dutch design is at Hema, a budget department store that develops all of its own products. From furniture to clothing to gardening tools, Hema has everything you could possibly want to buy, in its own, simple, and design-friendly renditions. Many HEMA products are really quite hip in their minimalism, and yet others are simply useful and cheap options for basic necessities. In particular, HEMA is famous for its smoked sausages and pies - yep, they do food too. Stop by the location along the Nieuwendijk shopping street, and browse to your hearts content!
