A series of shopping malls is the best way to describe Bangkok. There are even malls that have bridges between them, to allow for easier access. Shopping is unavoidable and a favorite pastime of locals and visitors alike. Choose from hectic markets or calm boutiques, always seeking interesting local wares and deals. Bargaining is customary in markets, especially, but not so in established shops, though even this may vary store-to-store. Double check a price if you don't feel it's totally fair - it's not uncommon for foreigners to get a "tourist price".
