Editor's review
Palace, casino, gardens... everything that Prince Carl of Prussia had seen in Italy he brought back with him to Berlin in the 19th century.
His intention was to bring a touch of Mediterranean elegance and style to a rather drab estate between Berlin and Potsdam, and the result of his efforts still stands today.
Typically of many grand homes of the time, Schloss Glienicke was decorated as much according to colour schemes as with an eye to luxury. Hence the green room, blue library and turquoise bedroom.
Two pavilions in the grounds of the palace are especially worth a look - they are known as the two 'curiosities'. The prince's casino is open to the public at an extra charge.
