Editor's review
The secret life of Berlin and Berliners before the end of the Cold War was a source of fascination and inspiration. The dividing line between east and west was the setting for many films and novels, and gave master spywriter John le Carre his character Karla.
Now it's all out in the open, and visitors to Berlin can join the Nest of Spies walk to visit the places where, not so long ago, it would have been a very bad idea to be seen.
The tour takes in espionage and control from several nations, including Britain, America, Germany and Soviet Russia. The headquarters of both the Wehrmacht and the Stasi are on the route, as well as the spots where Berliners attempted to escape from east to west and a British double agent sold out to the enemy.
Tour begins outside the Zoologischer Garten metro station.
