The first of Lift-Off’s annual eleven-city-wide global cycle of festivals, Berlin Lift-Off will be held at the indie powerhouse Il Kino. Il Kino makes indie film culture and history easily accessible for all, which makes it a perfect venue for Berlin Lift-Off.
Audiences will be treated to an incredibly broad range of films from equally diverse filmmakers, each presenting stories and perspectives unique to their own experiences. From carefully constructed features, perspective-shifting documentaries, and award-winning short films, there really is something for everyone.
As well as enjoying the films, the audience plays an integral role in Lift-Off festivals. Their responses to each film are collected via feedback cards, which are then sent to the filmmakers. These tangible and genuine audience reactions to their films are invaluable in developing the filmmakers’ creative process.
The live screenings culminate with a Local Filmmakers Showcase and Networking Party on Wednesday 6th February, where attendees and filmmakers can rub shoulders and maybe even find the perfect collaborators for their next project!
The Programme:
Feature film, Love Possibly (dirs. Michael Boccalini & Che Grant) is about a rom-com obsessed virgin who finally finds a fiancée on a Russian bride site, but he soon realizes Hollywood rom-com rules don't apply when you're trying to make a mail-order bride love you.
Short film, Fucking Drama (dir. Michael Podogil) sees a young couple in love experience an evening of theatre that changes their lives dramatically. Recently winning the Best Actor category (Michael Pink) at the Lift-Off Season Awards, this is a film that not only grips you from the get go but leaves you fixated on the dramatic performance by Pink.
Judith Hotel (dir. Charlotte Le Bon) winning both the Best Short Live Action Narrative and Best Director category at the Lift-Off Season Awards ceremony, this is an incredible debut film not to be missed. “To sleep forever, that is Remi’s dream. Eight years of insomnia have made his life a living hell. By booking a room at Judith Hotel, a very popular establishment, he is giving himself the opportunity for a new start”. Judith Hotel screens as part of the international shorts programme on Tuesday 5th February.
