Kenyan Makau wins Berlin Marathon
Patrick Makau of Kenya emerged victorious from a rainy Berlin Marathon, finishing just two seconds ahead of fellow Kenyan Geoffrey Mutai finishing the over 40 kilometer race in 2 hours 5 minutes and 8 seconds. In third place was Ethiopian Bazu Worku. This years times did not approach record-breaking levels (Makau's time was 11th in the history of the marathon), most likely due to the rainy weather.
In the women's race, Ethiopian athlete Aberu Kebede took first place with a time of 2 hours 23 minutes and 58 seconds. In second place was fellow Ethiopian Bezunesh Bekele, and in third came Tomo Morimoto of Japan.
In total there were nearly 41 000 participants in this year's Berlin Marathon.
