Venezuela Demands Return of Sacred Rock

The German government is in talks with Venezuela regarding the fate of a rock considered sacred by the Pemon indigenous people.

The 35-tonne rock now stands in a Berlin park as part of a project for peace and outdoor exhibition entitled Global Stone. German artist Wolfgang von Schwarzenfeld claims the rock was given to him by Venezuela ex-president Rafael Caldera, from the Canaima National Park in south-eastern Venezuela in 1998. However, the country's current President Hugo Chavez continues to call for its return based on claims that the stone, called Kueka ("grandmother") by the Pemon people, was stolen.

While the two country's government's decide the fate of the mighty Kueka, it's still possible to visit this rock in Berlin's Tiergarten park.
