Editor's review
A shoemaker called Wilhelm Voigt was broke and had little prospect of becoming less so. So he dreamed up a plan to steal the entire treasury of the little town of Koepenick by simply dressing as a military captain, enlisting local soldiers under his 'command', arresting the town's mayor and sending him under armed escort to Berlin to face trial for embezzlement. Still, at least the shoemaker left a receipt for the 4000-odd marks he stole, before heading over the mountains.
You can meet the captain here at this traditional German restaurant where food is served in hospitably large portions in an impressive cellar. And if the story of the audacious shoemaker whets your whistle, theatrical and musical performances bring more local colour as you dine.
