Slovakia Second in Hockey World Championship

Slovakias national hockey team has come in second place at the 2012 Ice Hockey World Championships, which took place in Finland and Sweden. Beating out Slovakia for top spot was Russia, who sailed through the competition with a spotless 10-0-0 record and conquered Slovakia 6-2 in the final game. This was Slovakias fourth appearance at an IIHF World Championship final game since 2002.

In third and fourth place was the Czech Republic and Finland, respectively.

The results of the IIHF World Championship helps determine the seeding for the next Winter Olympic games, which will take place in 2014 in Sochi, Russia.
