Romania's most famous building, this massive edifice was constructed during the darkest days of Nicolae Ceausescu's mad regime. Forcing the country into massive foreign debts that were paid with the entire nation's agricultural output as the people starved, the 'Casa Poporului' was an imposing reminder of Ceausescu's communist folly and extravagance while it was being built. Today playing host to the Romanian Parliament and Senate (as well as the Contemporary Art Museum), the country has tried to take it back from its former legacy and make it a symbol of Romanian ingenuity, craftsmanship, and, most importantly, democracy (with moderate success). The 2nd largest building in the world, tours of 5% of it are available. Click for more info.

From where can I buy tickets? Will it work during Easter this year 18-21 April?

It is a very impressive building. The quality of the Romanian craftmanship is high; marble, wood, draperies all 100% Romanian made. Worth a visit. Don't forget the history.

Even though it was built with the sweat of my people, the building is an architectural monument and it must be seen. I don't think that the Romanian people should kill themselves because this building exists, but to be proud that we are free now and living in a democratic country. You have no right to say that!

I can't believe you would go to see this building. To go and view this monstrosity is to support the ideals of a completely socialist regime. I hope for the sake of the Romanian people that neither one of you calls yourself a Romanian.
