New Terminal for Bucharest Airport

After two years of construction work, the airport serving Romanias capital can now boast a second, modern passenger terminal. The 60 million euro terminal at the Henri Coanda or Otopeni airport was opened by the Romanian Prime Minister, Emil Boc, who welcomed a flight from Brussels.

With 24 gates and over 16 000 square metres of space, the new terminal will increase the airports passenger capacity to 6 million per year. This is a 1.5 million passenger increase from the 2010 figures.

With this new addition, Romania hopes to be accepted into the visa-free European Schengen zone.

I first visited Bucharest in Nov. of 2007and the airport looked like it could use some serious up-dating.I recently visited Bucharest in March,2011 and was pleasantly surprised to see the great remodeling that had taken place since my first visit. The new terminal was wonderful.
