Romania Chooses Eurovision Candidate

Romania has chosen their national candidate for the Europe-wide Eurovision song contest, which takes place every year in a different location across the continent. The band chosen was Romanian group Mandinga, with lead siner Elena Ionescu, with their song Zaleilah.

The song was composed by Romanian Costi Ionita and came in first place due to favor with the jury, with popular favourite Sun-ta by band Electric Fence, coming up in second place.

Last year, the band Hotel FM represented Romania, earning 17th place in the contest. The 2012 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Baku in Azerbaijan in May.
