Budapest: Hollywood on the Danube?

Angelina Jolie is the latest in a series of stars to decamp to Budapest for some movie-making antics. The Hollywood star was in town this October for the filming of her unlikely directorial debut, a fable said to be about a Muslim woman who falls in love with the Serbian soldier that rapes her during the Bosnian war.

Budapest will also appear on the silver screen in the forthcoming adaption of Maupassant's novel Bel Ami, a tale of a social-climbing French journalist who manipulates a string of high society mistresses. Robert Pattinson of Twilight fame will take the role of the seducer, joined by Uma Thurman, Cristina Ricci and Kristin Scott Thomas.

Meanwhile, Anthony 'Hannibal' Hopkins has got his teeth back into the Horror genre here in Budapest. Upcoming movie The Rite casts him as an exorcist who must do battle with the forces of Beelzebub.
