Menza stands out from the hordes of other bars, cafes and restaurants on Liszt Ferenc Square thanks to its retro design, which no doubt has helped it garner something of a cult status. A rigid geometrical design, naff wallpaper and cheap furnishings, all distastefully done in a thousand different shades of brown successfully recreates the Soviet-style canteens that were popular in the 70s and 80s. That's where the similarity ends though, and with a fine selection of Hungarian and international dishes and fast and friendly service, Menza is more than equipped to deal with a free market economy.

It was pretty good - though being from Poland the 'commie retro' look perhaps was lost on me....!
Excellant bottle of wine, beef stew (goulash) was beautiful with spatzel best in Europe. Try the struedal with marzipan ice cream.
