Green Eindhoven
There are plenty of green spaces in Eindhoven for lovers of the great outdoors, and most are located close to the city centre. Two such spaces definitely worth checking out are the Stadswandelpark (City Park) and the larger Genneper Parken (Parks in Gennep) recreational area.
Stadswandelpark
Located just south of the city centre, the Stadswandelpark, or 'city stroll park', is just that: an escape into nature within walking distance of Markt. The park is perfect for a stroll when the weather is nice, and is home to several modern sculptures, as well as a small playground for children. The Dommel river runs through it, forming a pond at one point that is popular with locals.
Genneper Parken
The Genneper Parken are a much larger recreational area and nature preserve that lies south of the Stadswandelpark. Getting there from the city centre is easy by bike or bus, but given its vast size it's best to navigate it on two wheels.
In addition to vast areas of green space, which can be navigated via marked walking and bicycle routes, Genneper Park is a haven for athletes and sports lovers. Within its grounds you'll find an in- and outdoor swimming pool complex (the largest in Europe), with the state-of-the-art Pieter van den Hoogenband swimming stadium and a subtropical water park with slides. Ice skaters will find an enormous covered ice rink as well as a hockey stadium, while footballers can play or watch matches on one of several football (soccer) pitches. For those who prefer the links to a pitch, there is miniature golf a horse stable and course for riders.
The Genneper Park is also home to some unique attractions, including an organic farm, a place to learn all about green living, a botanical garden, and the Eindhoven Museum, a place that's not to be missed!
