Editor's review
Gdynia's Municipal Theatre takes revenge on the decades of drab greyness that dominated Poland's architecture. Covered from top to toe in a crazy mosaic of rainbow colours, the theatre has a design that Witold Gombrowicz (whom the theatre was dedicated too in March 2000) would certainly have found amusing. Gombrowicz was the foremost writer of Poland's pre-war avant-garde, and a cult figure during the communist era, when much of his work was banned. As one would expect, the theatre hosts works by the great man, as well as classic Polish theatre. However, non-Polish speakers are not left in the lurch as the theatre is also renowned for its musical performances.
