"How interesting can amber be?" we hear you ask. Well, pretty interesting actually as this comprehensive museum in the Barbican tower proves. Amber is actually a fossil resin (usually in the region of 30-90 million years old) and not a mineral as many suppose. It's unique beauty has made it highly-prized throughout history, and cities on the Baltic Coast, where most of the world's amber is found, have done a roaring trade in the precious 'stone' since Mycenean times. This superb museum on six floors explores every aspect of amber, from its harvesting and trading to its role in modern art.

I had gone Amber blind by the time we stumbled on the museum. At 10zloty (£2) I was Excellent!!! You also get the Jaling Museum within the admission fee. All kinds of Amber are at the museum. Creatures stuck in amber, amber fashion, amber rings, necklaces etc. I wasnt too sure I would enjoy it. But at £2 it was one of the best things to do in Gdansk!
