One of Sopot's most loved attractions, this place is a fantastic example of abstraction in both architecture and life... the most mind-bending/fitting aspect being that somehow it's also a business centre.
From the outside, this building looks like its transported itself here from the 4th dimension but accidentally passed through a black hole along the way. Surprisingly, inside you'll find beauty salons, doctors’ offices, and regular shopping mall stores selling a vast array of items.
In the evening the Krzywy Domek even becomes vibrant with life. It's also home to scores of clubs and pubs which between them serve up a great variety of fantastic food and drink and host fun regular events for night owls. Krzywy Domek is renowned for it's non-stop buzzing atmosphere. It's unnecessary to bring any drugs for your night out. You'll feel like you've popped them as soon as you take in the facade.
Randomly, this is also an extremely prominent business hub. On a daily basis this complex is the site of all kinds of business meetings, tele-conferences, multimedia presentations, deals and developments in the offices of various Polish and Global companies who has made Krzywy Domek their nest.
So why is the inside so drastically 'normal' when the outside is so drastically 'weird' ? (Or is it the other way around?)
Well - personally, 15 mins in most shopping centres makes our brains feel like this building looks... so perhaps the designer was simply an exceptionally honest and societally-aware one. Maybe it's all a not-so-subtle comment on commercialism itself. Maybe the architect was an alcoholic... or god got bored... this place only leaves more questions to be asked - it doesn't answer them. Apparantly it was inspired by the whimisical fairy-tale drawings of Jan Szancer... yet again only more questions arise. Unsurprisingly, this place has made the list of the 50 strangest buildings of the world. It actually ranked in first place.
