Trip to Kaliningrad

Hi folks, we (2 germans) will stay next month a couple of days in Gdansk and like to visit Kaliningrad by ship, bus, or train.(Ship preferrsed) Is there a ferry-boot travelling between Gdansk and Kaliningrad? How much is that? Is it necessary to book in advance? What about visa-procedures? Thank´s a lot, many greetings to gdansk Wolfgang
