Kubica Inspires Gdansk Racetrack
Get revved up race fans. Gdansk authorities have announced their intentions to build a Formula 1 race track on Poland's Baltic coast. The track will be 5700m long with a straightaway which will allow race cars to exceed speeds of 300km/hr. A go-cart track will also be built. The project is estimated at a cost of about 200 million Euros, and planners are now seeking sponsors.
The idea was apparently inspired by the success of Robert Kubica, Poland's first-ever Formula 1 racer. Though Kubica hails from Krakow, Gdanskers seem to love him most (at least 200 million more than Krakowians). Kubica currently ranks a respectable sixth in this year's overall Formula 1 standings.
