Chopin Photo Controversy

Head of Gdansks Cyklop gallery Wladyslaw Zuchowski has announced an astonishing new acquisition - a 19th century photograph believed to depict Polish romantic composer Frederic Chopin on his deathbed.

Experts remain puzzled over the photos authenticity, which Zuchowski purchased from a private owner in Scotland. If authentic, the daguerreotype (the earliest type of photograph) would only be the third known photograph of the famed composer.

It is believed that the photo, a framed silver and copper image, may have originated from the collection of a former student of Chopin named Jane Stirling of Scotland. The image is signed with the name of French photographer Louis Auguste Bisson.
