Euro 2012 Closes with Spain Victory
The UEFA Euro 2012 championship, which was hosted across Poland and Ukraine, has wrapped up, with a sweeping display by Spain's national team, thrashing Italy with a 4-0 victory.
In Gdansk, the city and its surrounding area hosted the base camps of the Spanish, Irish, and German teams. The city's newly constructed PGE Arena hosted 3 matches in Group C with Spain vs Italy (1-1), Spain vs Ireland (4-0), and Croatia vs Spain (0-1). The city also hosted a quarter-final between Germany and Greece (4-2).
The next UEFA Euro championship will take place in France in 2016, with an expanded number of countries (24) vying for the European title.
