After WWII a number of symbolic Weddings to the Sea took place along the Baltic Sea coast. It marked a symbolic reclaiming of the north-western stretch of the Baltic Sea to Poland after hundreds of years. The Kołobrzeg monument commemorates March 18th, 1945, when Corporal Franciszek Niewidziajło said the vows and tossed a symbolic ring into the wvaes. A compelling piece of Polish history
