Come April 24, the city will finally have emerged fully from 40 days of Lenten self-denial, and will be well into the celebrations of the most important festival in the Christian calendar.


The next day, it’s advisable to carry an umbrella whatever the weather – as the whole of Poland will celebrate Smigus Dyngus (Easter Monday). Why the brolly? Because it’s traditional to splash even complete strangers with water on this date. Apparently, an unexpected drenching brings luck...
