City of Rooks

Last year, grand pianos appeared on Krakow's streets to mark the year of the composer Chopin. This time, it's rooks - those castle-shaped pieces from the chess board - to celebrate, well, chess. This is the closing month of the event, and features the 82nd congress of the International Chess Federation, from October 15 to 22. Just a few days later the 181 or so rooks, will end their 200-day occupation of the city. If you’ve ever wanted your photo taken alongside 3.2 metre tall chess pieces, there’s never been a better time.
