I've been told it's about 35 PLN for 15-minutes viewing -- a little less if you're a student. Not bad for a great view. I'll probably give it a go this weekend.

If you mean a proper hot air balloon, then I think that's about 3K PLN, but you get food, transport and about a 40-minute ride. Check here for more http://www.krakow-tours.com/balloon-flight.php

Would that be the same kind of great view as the famous one from the Warsaw Palace of Culture - i.e. because it's the only place in the city where you can't see the thing itself?

Naw, bennox, I think the white balloon gives a bit of life to the old city, just the opposite of the Warsaw monstrosity.

What is this white balloon I keep hearing about?

Just south of Wawel by the river. Kicked up a bit of controversy, but undoubtedly an amazing few if you're up there. Let us know what you think of it!
