Russian is somewhat similar to Polish, but there are some big differences - in general, people should get an idea of what you say, but having a conversation could be difficult. I suggest using English, as most Poles know the language - at least young Poles.

I think as well that english is more common .So try first in russian and then if you are not understood, try with your english.If you come to Zakopane, I may find some people to welcome you who speak russian
