Celebrating All Saints
All Saints' Day (Wszystkich Świętych) falls on Tuesday this year, which means that many Cracovians will enjoy an extended, four-day weekend to celebrate. The day itself is expected to be unseasonably warm, so more people than ever will flock to the citys cemeteries to pay their respects to the dead. The city council has also announced that, for the duration of the holiday weekend, road repair and construction programmes around the city will be altered to help ease the expected influx of motorists. Transport body MPK has also reorganised the tram network for the duration, so check their website for up to date information. Krakows most famous cemetery, Rakowicki, is flooded every year by a sea of candles on November 1. If you want to get into the spirit of the day, small coloured lanterns are available for sale at most stores around the city and even if you go simply out of curiosity, the sight of the cemetery lit up under multi-coloured candlelight is a spectacle not to be missed.
