Editor's review
Krakow's Bunkier Sztuki modern art gallery is known for two things: hosting the best exhibitions of contemporary art by national and international artists, and their cafe. Summer or winter, rain or shine, you can sit "outside" in this cafe in the Planty and observe passersby while sipping a cappuccino or a glass of wine. In the summer, the clear plastic coverings are removed and the cafe is truly open, while in the winter the cafe is wrapped in protective plastic and the many heaters ensure that the elements can't get to you. The cafe hosts frequent film screenings and other special events as well.

Breakfasts here are terrific and very popular, especially at the weekends. Eggs Benedict and Eggs Florentine are good choices, and the coffee is excellent. Just remember that if you are planning a Sunday brunch, the breakfast menu closes at 12 (midday) so don't be late!
i come here all the time because its one of the nicest place to sit in the Old town. Not many pub/restaurants/bars (if any) are set into the planty park and it's very relaxing to by under the trees and watch people, birds, dogs cycle & wander past... its divided into smoking & non smoking sections which is nice because not many places have a smoking section in krakow where you can sit, eat, smoke & drink all at the same time, even in the depths of winter (the outer walls go down in winter & go up in summer).
People usually dont care about how nice that is for smokers... but how busy that section is should give you a clue how many people appreciate it & i'm one of them. really hard to find a seat sometimes because of this but its just got a fantastic vibe, very relaxed, cute mismatched wooden tables, ive always found the waiters & waitresses very very friendly & nice but of course very busy
I think the lunch/dinner menu is really close to being good but needs some improvement... halloumi salad is perfect & hummus platter but the rest could use some refining to have cleaner flavours & that little bit of extra magic (but is by no means BAD).. nachos for instance are literally just melted cheese on a packet of nachos... super dry, salsa just tastes like out of a jar or made with tinned tomatos & is not fresh tasting... needs guacamole & bean dip or something. but breakfast menu is amazing. drinks menu is amazing. everything else is amazing enough that even if they never change the menu i will go back again & again.
Here a few mornings each week for the super eggs benedict and the best coffee in the area. Service has always been fine to great for me.
And there, in Szwagier's review, you have the problem in a nutshell... It's not the servers' fault, it's the customers' fault for wanting service! Doh!
i think you missed the point... i also think it would be really hard NOT to be rude to someone like you... they are only human after all.... and surprisingly they have always always been nice to me. maybe cause im not a jerk, ewa.
Great place. The reason it's difficult to catch the eye of the staff is because they're *busy*. They don't slack at all. If you're rude to them, they'll be rude to you.
All fine, but the service is just awfull! I was shocked and felt totally offended when the waiter gave me the bill and screamed at me to be faster in paying because she "had to hours left and felt tired!" WTF?!! I felt like a shieeet! Try to avoid it!
The wait staff don't hesitate to let you know that you're an inconvenience. One waitress walked into me as i was entering, spilled coffee on me and gave me a sarcastic "dzien dobry" as she walked off in a huff. Avoid.
Beware of the pickpockets and laid back bar staff!
Bunkier Café was always my favourite place for coffee and a newspaper. Unfortunately, I had to change my mind when my friend was recently pick pocketed by the guy who sat next to us and looked very drunk. When we reported this incident to the staff they admitted he had looked very drunk and had been swapping tables without ordering anything for approx. 3 hours before we arrived. There was even a security guy inside the café who was sitting quietly in the corner that took no action whatsoever !
The note at the entrance door says beware of pick pockets and so the customers should stay alert and mind their valuables. But allowing the strangers to hang out in the bar especially when they generate no income and look suspicious is simply a neglect. Beware of the laid back staff in this bar.
i think this has not been a problem for years ( i dont remember this ever happening) so dont be put off by this in 2018
Chilled out place, good wi-fi, but wish it was all non-smoking. As now the non-smoking part is small and cold and smoking part is always crammed and so smoky you can barely see. Great cakes and coffees.
welllll i think that kind of tells you that many more people want it to be smoking... because that side is always full... and non-smoking side empty... so maybe it should all be made all smoking :)
I think this is the place we went to but it looks very grim here in the pic! Still, a great place!
Lovely chilled out place. Recommend the Hot Chocolate with Rum, and cherry vodka! Also agree with the point about catching the staffs eye, but worth the wait!
atmospheric cafe next to bunkier sztuki which does a roaring trade. Yeah a little bit pricier than most, and getting waiters eye can be tricky. still iconic plasticky pavilion overlooking the planty... can't beat that
Not the cheapest place in the city, but the location can't be beat, and the selection of teas and cakes is superb.
