A comparatively new addition to the Cracow scene, fans of Tolkien and the world of fantasy should find plenty to enjoy in this cellar pub, but it's not only for Dungeons and Dragons types - this is one of those themed pubs that actually works. It's part of the magic of Cracow that you can cover the walls with mock-Celtic artwork, call your drinks things like the Frodo Cocktail, Arwen's Kiss, Bilbo Baggins or Tom Bombadil and not only get away with it, but actually make something truly memorable. Plus in Summer you can smoke your pipe, hobbit-style, in the garden, whilst inside football matches are now screened regularly.

Very disappointing. The idea has a lot of potential, but it's not being explored. There is very little of Middle Earth in the place apart from the cocktails! Speaking of which, my girlfriend had to tell the barman how to mix the ones we ordered! And, to add injury to insult, she ruined a new pair of tights on a rustic metal chair! Very few people in the place on a Saturday night, which kind of says a lot. And the too loud music at the top of the stairs (which isn't loud down inside) could send lots of folks elsewhere.
Saw the funny sign and couldn't resist this one. Very funny names of cocktails - all in the Tolkien spirit!
What can I say - just come back yesterday and visited this place. What a **** hole. Were trying to have a quiet drink with friends when we got hassled by a guy who was either very drunk or very stoned who had great pleasure calling us names. He then moved on to annoy 2 other tables, cause thats all there was of us. The guys at the other table left and as soon as we had finished our drink so did we. Apart from that, the place was dark and dingy and as other another review said, very smoky. Would definaetly avoid this place if we go back to Krakow.
the tolkien pub is a Krakow classic. Nice place to relax, and you don't have to be a dungeons and dragons geek to come here.
Hmph. Went here in October, it was ok. When I came back last week (25/04/07-02/05/07) I went twice and it was shut both occasions, not that late either. Any ideas if it is still open?
This place was a good example of what my wife and I really enjoyed about Krakow - individual themed bars rather than the 'chain' 'all the same' outlets you get in the UK. We were probably the oldest people in there as it seemed to attract a student type crowd, but no one shunned us for being 40 somethings and the bar is well worth seeing. The barman, who was probably the only person older than me, was no Frodo Baggins (no offence meant), but was as seemingly all Poles, welcoming and friendly. The only reason why I did not give it a 5/5 was because it was too smoky for my liking. Hobit holes should have good air extraction systems!
it was wa not one of those taky themed barsmiddle earth was very well doen with soem intrestign cocktales i loved the main setting area very dark a good place to escape teh heat as i did on one occasion seemed like it was run buy fans of the book too
Quite subdued when we visited, but it was mid afternoon. The Middle Earth theme wasn't as in your face as I expected, but perhaps I just missed it!
Bizzarre, strange place - but we have very funny time here with Polish people who can almost drink as much as us from Finland - but our Vodka is better!
