The Pole and the Magyar like brothers stand, Whether with sword or with goblet in hand.' Thus goes the old saying, and Poles continue to be fans of Hungarians - and their wines - until this very day. Why not drop into Amphorum then and raise a goblet or two? There are dozens of delicious bottles to choose from. What's more, hungry admirers of Hungary can enjoy a snack, as there are cheese and olive dishes to accompany the vino.

We stopped by Amphorum in June 2006. Although youll find only Hungarian wines on the list, there really is a lot to choose from, and their prices mean you can enjoy more than a glass or two before calling it a night. (We did not sample anything on the food menu.) The only fault I could find with the wine and service was that I was asked to wait nearly 10 minutes for my requested white wine to chill. No alternatives or discount offered. That being said, the staff was extremely convivial and helpful. They even offered to turn on the World Cup game (muted, of course) when we wandered in and asked whether any of the other patrons were already watching. Now to ambience. Amphorum wont hold a lot of people, but the lighting is just perfect for a wine bar and the decked-out barrels for tables and stools are a great touch. Narrow spaces make it difficult for large groups to get together, but at least it doesnt get too noisy. All in all, a nice cozy little place.
