Ancora is the creation of master chef Adam
Chrzastowski, whose own dishes make up the menu of the restaurant. Ancora is the first of its kind in Krakow, as well as the first which can boast such a large selection of wines - 400 at the moment, and growing! The restaurant's seafood variety is impressive as well, especially in comparison to most Polish restaurants. Ancora's uniqueness can be spotted outright, from its exclusive yet open character which welcomes all sorts of clients, from business lunch types to families and tourists, to its open kitchen in the middle of the restaurant, where you can watch as professional chefs prepare every dish with flare. What sets Ancora Restaurant apart is its attention to every detail of the dining experience, not just the food itself.

Overrated food. Used to be quite good, but standards have slipped recently. Not cheap either. Overall there are better places to eat in Krakow these days
Decor quite clinical but the food delicious. Chef definitely knows what he's doing. Not cheap but good.
A bit fancier than what we'd normally go for, but the food was definitely excellent. Quite London-like in style
Fantastic meal and dining experience with attentive staff and excellent all round. Three courses and including wine etc was around £32 per head including service - highly recommended!
Slightly poncey style, but the chef seems very nice, and above all he cooks extremely well. A breah of fresh air in the gastronomic sphere.
Having found this restaurant back in May 2008, we have been going regularly ever since for both business and social occasions and our guests love it. Ancora gets it consistently right, the food, the wine, the ambience and the service. Dishes are perfectly balanced and very tasty. Difficult to recommend any one dish as they are all lovely but favourites are the duck, monkfish, duo of creamy soups and of course, the very interesting blue cheese souffle which you must try. Great to see consistent staff as well. Well worth a visit.
I ate here in December 2008, and was a bit disappointed. Yes, most of the food was very good, but some of the dishes lacked the top quality you should expect in this price range. The salmon sashimi was fridge-cold, witch made it rather tasteless. A guest in our party got a bad tasting/smelling scallop, camouflaged with ham wrapping. We tried to tip the chef about this but he replied that scallops are supposed to have a distinct taste. I guess he should try a fresh scallop sometime. Then he wouldnt dream of wrapping it in ham. However, the vodka sorbet was delicious and the quail vindaloo superb.
The wine list is excellent! One more thing: why is the chef on almost EVERY picture in the restaurant? Boring!
Praise indeed! I have eaten here once last summer and I must say it was really very good indeed. Portions were not as large as I like but the food was cooked to perfection. Certainly deserves more customers - when I pass it often seems pretty empty.
This isn't just the best restaurant in Krakow, or the best restaurant in Poland. This may very well be the best meal I have ever had. You know it's a good sign when you take 30mins to order as there is too much to choose from! Every dish was exceptional, perfectly judged servings and service the likes of which I could only dream about getting at home. The staff were friendly, professional and exceptionally knowledgable about the meals and the suitable accompanying drinks. I cannot praise this restaurant highly enough, frankly one of the best I have ever had the pleasure to dine in.
This restaurant serves the best tasting FOOD in Krakow. In fact, this would be one of the top restaurants in any city anywhere. It's that good. A meal will cost more than most other places in Krakow, but for a special occasion, this is the place. Chef Adam's cuisine is spectacular. It also is the best place to find a great selection of wonderful wines.
we ate here in november 08 and the food was fantastic, presentation, service and quality with a very different restaurant, it would have easily cost double in ireland or england, would reccommend.
A real treat on a weekend away. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. The service was understated and truly professional. The bill would have been twice as much in Belfast. This dining experience was a joy.

Well from a french point of view i think this could be easily the best restaurant in town. They know wines, they know gastonomy. Its clearly more 'fresh' and modern than what you can find in the other restaurants in Kracow. Price are pretty high but compared to what i would have paid in France its nothing.
The only cons is that the tram was only some metters from our table so it emplies some noise, but it was no so annoying as you may think.
So my advice is that you have to come here (but don't expect to try the traditional polish food here, its not the aim).
Wonderful! Really yummy food- delicious! one of the best meals I have ever had... especially the dessert.
I visited Ancora restaurant last April 2008 with several friends.
The food is excellent and beautifully presented. It cost about 35 a head for 3 courses with wine. A meal of this standard in Dublin would cost double this amount.
Even though we all thoroughly enjoyed our food, I am knocking 1 point off as we were seated down stairs and it was quite cold. Also, the service was not 100%.
Celebrated our 25th Anniversary in your restaurant with six friends. Was a night to remember, the food was wonderful, the athmosphere was a delight and what better celebrating with good friends and good food and wine. You have to try it - memorable.
The staff were also very good - good recommendation on wine & food.
A group of seven friends and I visited Ancorra this weekend and were absolutely delighted with the quality of the meal that we received. The menus is varied but not too large, the food is stunningly presented and tasted delisious. Not one of us was disappointed with any of our choices. We all particularly enjoyed the intermediate course of sorbet and vodka. I would highly recommend Ancora to anyone visiting Krakow. It was an excellent meal for a svery pecial occasion and best of all we all paid just under £30 per head where back home we would have easily been charged double that for a meal of this quality.
Went to Ancora last night with some friends. I'd been looking forward to it for ages but we all left a bit disappointed. The food was too heavy and seemed to lack freshness. My veal was beautifully rare, but the vegetable garnish was overcooked, and it came on a pile of overcooked tagliatelle with a very heavy cream sauce. Toffee tart was just sweet, it had no real toffee flavour and the pear sorbet didn't taste of pears. A good modern European restaurant would be a welcome addition to Krakow's dining scene, but it's a shame they've taken such an old fashioned approach to cooking.
This was our first visit to Ancora .Excellent food, beautifully presented with service to match. This restaurant has only been opened a short time and deserves to become very popular.
We have only been once, and we weren't expecting any culinary magic, as it was January 1st, and most of the country was hung over. However, it was a birthday, and as luck would have it, the restaurant exceeded all expectations. We started with a small selection of tartares which we both enjoyed immensely. Having been off venison for five years after a bad experience in London, I was nervous about trying it again but I did, and it was nothing short of perfect. My better half tried her luck with the tuna steak with pepper. Again, a triumph. As we were now heading into grossly indulgent territory and soon to be several stone larger than before Christmas, we thought it only wise to give the chocolate cake a whirl. Another masterpiece. It was served with apple sorbet - something we'd never had before, but a perfect complement. The cake itself had the very welcome surprise of a reserve of liquid chocolate in the centre.Could not have been bettered. To add to this, the service was friendly yet professional. All in all a revelation.
I can not agree with Mike, I visit Ancora few times. Food was always high level and I could say that is one of best places in town. There is not cheep restaurant, but for quality of products witch they use that prices are absolutely reasonable. I can hardly recommend that restaurant.
I went there last night with my girlfriend; the menu leans towards italian with some Polish additions. I had a lobster soup and salad (they have only one salad on the menu, a minus). My girlfriend tried a soup and mushroom risotto. Aside the lobster soup, which was good, the food was really average, no acute tastes, rather mild fare. The menu is definately overpried for what they offer (at this price, Farina rocks or Carlito on Florianska or the little Italian joint on Kupa in Kazimierz). Can't recommend this one.
Ate here just the once, (18/12/07), during our stay after reading the reviews on this site and visiting the restaurants own website. Decided it looked really quite smart and trendy! On arrival we were a little put off as there were no menus or prices on display. However, we went in anyway and decided we'd bite the bullet whatever it cost, (it looks quite expensive!) The food was excellent, we had 3 courses, drinks and coffee and it cost us little more than a decent pub meal costs in the UK! It's easy to find in the Old Town, it also looked good with smart, friendly, good-looking staff. I don't know if Poland has TV chefs but this guy should be one - Ready Steady Cook-ski!! Highly recommended - but don't expect traditional Polish cuisine.
Im so glad we found the Ancora Restaurant, I have eaten in many five star places around the world and I would class this restaurant on a par with many of them! The staff were excellent and so helpful, the wine list was extensive! and the food exquisite! This is the first food review I've taken the time to write so that is a reflection on our experience to this restaurant.
We found this by chance. How lucky we were. The decor is delightful, food superb and the service was excellent. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys fine wine, great food in a comfortable surround. I only wished we had our last night here rather than at Cyrano de Bergeracs.
The pepper vodka and oyster shot as an intermediate course was a real wow.
Our waitress was so helpful and we genuinely got the impression she actually cared about our dining experience. All our party were in the catering trade so this is high praise.
beautifull place, excellent food and perfect service... there's nothing more i'm looking for.. and i found that all and lots "more" ("ancora").. thanks Adam!
