This spot is something of an in the know option for a quick lunch. A cross between a milk bar and a restaurant, Polskie Smaki serves up tasty Polish fare for around 15 zloty per head. It may be a cut-price joint but that hasn't stopped the owner going all out to create an atmosphere that's full of fantasy. Bright blues and yellows cover the walls, and dainty pre-war odds and ends peep out from the shelves. At the back there's a loud strained glass atrium as well as an unexplained path that looks like something out of The Wizard of Oz. The fact that it's always full of Poles is a sign that the owner has got it right.

This restaurant was recommended to us, but we obviously went on an off day. The service was more surly than usual, with an impatient, stroppy air. They confused my husband's half of our order with the previous person's, & refused to explain what was happening. My husband & I ended up eating about 15 minutes apart which was annoying.
The food was OK- the pierogi a little underdone. But the bigos was better.
The interior was interesting with a lovely glass ceiling at the back.
With better, less stressed staff we would maybe return to what is a reasonable budget eatery.
