Getting around Krynica
If you've come to Krynica by car, please note that the streets of the town are not particularly wide (mostly one lane each side), hence parking is allowed only in the parking zones. Most hotels and pensions in Krynica have their private parkings, and offer them free of charge to its guests. Also, all the sports facilities and ski resorts have ample of parking space. No car? No worries, as Krynica operates some public transport, however it is not by bus lines as you'd imagine it in a major city, but by regular minivan operators contracted to carry passengers at certain routes. The minivans, more commonly named "minibus" /meenee-boos/; the cars are white and have a plaque with destination behind their windshield instead of a particular line number. To stop a bus you just need to wave, and the ticket is purchased at the driver's. To request a stop say "please stop at the next stop" /po-prosheh nah nahs-tehmphnem psheh-stahnkoo/ - and that's it. The local minibus timetables are available only in Polish, but durng the day a maximum waiting time is ca. 15 min. The buses operate mostly between the two major ski resorts, stretched between the two opposite edges of the town: the Slotwiny in the northern tip, and the Czarny Potok with Mt. Jaworzyna in the south. The fee starts at 2.5 zl; there are no discounts for children and students. Transporting the skis is allowed, but an extra fee is charged.
Taxi service in Krynica is also available, but the drivers don't speak English as a rule. Taxi ranks can be found at Kościelna, Kraszewskiego and Piłsudskiego St. The fares start at ca. 10 zl, and the cars are modern and well maintained.
If you'd like to travel in style, you can also book a horse carriage to drive you to your hotel, or any destination in Krynica you wish. The carriage rank is located at Piłsudskiego St, almost opposite the taxis, but if you see a free carriage some place around Krynica, the diver will be more than happy to pick you up on the go.
