On French Revolution Square sits one of Ljubljana's foremost architectural marvels. Originally a monastery complex and seat of the Order of Teutonic Knights dating back to the 13th century, the monks were unceremoniously evicted after WWII and Plecnik given the charge of overhauling the site. The summer theatre, which occupies the central monastery courtyard, is today Ljubljana's most popular outdoor concert venue, known for its fine acoustics, and hosting world-renowned performers of theatre, opera, classical and pop music. A large movable canvas roof protects events from not infrequent precipitous disturbances.
