Much as you might not be a fan of train stations, you'll have little to complain about here. Not only is it in a handsome building with handy facilities like luggage storage and a tourist office, but everyone speaks English as well (and without the heavy-metal gaze you may have gotten used to in other train stations!). Not only that, but the Slovenian railway system has a fantastic website that's also in English and succeeds in making your life easier. From the Ljubljana train station you can get daily direct international connections to Budapest, Munich, Venice, Vienna, Zurich, Zagreb and Belgrade, or anywhere in Slovenia - there's not a spot in the country more than 3 hours away! Just north of the city centre, it's also a short walk to most hotels and attractions.

Yes....to arrive in Slovenia is always a buzz because the people here are simultaneously old-world in terms of politeness and respect but also from a future other countries can only hope to get to someday. The trains work, are affordable and pleasant and efficient and those working on them enjoy their job and like meeting people! Is this so shocking? .-)
Last night I arrived off a bus from Tolmin and within minutes had a return ticket to Budapest purchased from a helpful ticket-shop woman. I love Slovenia and want to join this country. They are my kind of people and they have a beautiful jewel of a country they are proud of yet love to share
I've been is Slovenia in 2008. The Train Station is clean and safe. I have very good memories about Slovenia, specialy about the train station, where i knew very interesting people. You can see all kind of people, from everywhere.
I took the train from Italy to Slovenia years ago. the trains in Italy were not nice. They were not clean and the people pushed and shoved.you had to rush to get a seat even though you had a ticket. The trains in Slovenia were clean and pleasant. I recommend taking the train in Slovenia.
