Editor's review
Looking over the northern side of Trafalgar Square, the magnificent National Gallery is London’s premier destination for western art. It’s a veritable who’s who in painting throughout the museum, and some of the world’s most recognizable pieces can be found here, such as Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, Degas’ Dancers, and van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait. Other highlights include the works of Italian Renaissance artists including Botticelli and Michelangelo, as well as the iconic paintings of British landscape artists such as Turner and Constable. Admission is free. For an extra dose of art check out the neighbouring National Portrait Gallery, which is home to some 10 000 pieces depicting subjects from as far back as the Tudors until today.
