Editor's review
London’s oldest surviving pie and mash shop, M Manze, has been serving the working-class classic from its location south of Tower Bridge for generations. Freshly baked beef pies are the specialty, and are traditionally accompanied by mashed potatoes and liquor – a type of parsley sauce. Another London classic on offer is stewed and jellied eels, a tradition that dates back to the 18th century when eels were plentiful in the Thames and a popular cheap and nutritious food source. A meal at M Manze is still one of the best bargains in town, and a full meal will generally come in at under a fiver per person. Look for other M Manze shops across London as well, including Peckham and Sutton in South London.
