Before shopping malls and sprawling superstores, were covered shopping streets called arcades, and you’ll likely spot quite a few in central London. The oldest and most illustrious of them all is the Burlington Arcade " a luxurious pathway of upmarket shopping between Bond Street and Piccadilly. There’s a focus on high quality craftsmanship in the Arcade’s shops, and if you fancy a splurge you won’t go wrong with the jewellery, fashion, silver, and antiques on offer. As for the security, the Arcade’s famous Beadles keep an eye out for any “illegal” activity " including whistling, humming, running, or even carrying large packages.
