Editor's review
One of the hippest of London’s markets (it is in hip East London, after all), Spitalfields dates back to the 17th century when meat, fruit, and vegetables were the chief offerings of the market. Today, the area has been transformed into a modern marketplace where stalls in the large covered space sell everything from quirky homewares to handmade and vintage fashion. The surrounding building is home to a handful of shops, as well as several reputable restaurants and cafes. The busiest day at Spitalfields market remains Sunday, but trader’s stalls are now also open from Monday to Friday. Permanent shops and restaurants are open daily.
