Walking through Gorky Park, you'd be forgiven for thinking you've landed in a bit of an alternate children's universe, complete with miniature buildings and retro amusement park rides. Tattered loudspeakers blare out pop music and indecipherable rules and instructions (no smoking in the park!) and makeshift stands sell anything from cheap plastic toys to wacky caricatures. The jewel at the heart of Gorky is the 56-metre high ferris wheel, which gives stunning views of the city from its peak. However, its perfectly groomed gardens and general pleasant atmosphere makes Gorky a popular spot for a walk even for those not looking to entertain the little ones. And it's not a bad place for a stand-up meal either, with several BBQ options scattered around the park.
