The Belarusian State University is just one of many institutions of higher learning in Minsk, but it is the only university that can claim to be the oldest, as well as the largest. With a wide variety of programmes on offer, including Master and PhD programs, BSU teaches nearly 30 000 students. Of these, almost 2000 are international or exchange students which contribute to the city's student population's distinctly cosmopolitan vibe. While courses are generally taught in Russian and Belarusian, there are several programmes available for those interested in learning the languages through a summer course or during the academic year. Overall, an essential starting point to exploring Minsk's academic options.
