Replacing Minsk's older Minsk-1 airport, the Minsk National Airport (sometimes known as Minsk-2), is the main hub for air travel for visitors to the city. The airport, opened in 1982, has kept a distinctly Soviet feel and combined with its relatively small size, is really quite different from airports in major city centres around the world. But Minsk's airport does its job perfectly well, and serves both the Belarus airline Belavia as well as foreign airlines connecting the city to the world. Situated over 40km from the centre, the easiest way to get to and from the airport is via taxi or a car transfer which can be easily pre-arranged with most hotels.
