Dynamo down and out?
Dynamo Moscow, one of Russia's most prestigious ice hockey clubs seems to be facing its end.
The historic member of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League is to merge with HC MVD, a fellow club of the KHL, due to severe financial problems. Many players have already been released from their contracts and the entire coaching staff has been fired.
Founded in 1946 Dynamo has been one of the most successful clubs of Russia's ice hockey history. Amongst others, the team won nine times the Soviet/Russian championship, twice the renowned Spengler Cup and became European Champion in 2006.
Dynamo was long considered a member of the hockey elite, and it can be said that its possible end is a true loss for ice hockey fans in Russia and around the world.
