Tragedy in Moscow Airport

Tragedy struck Moscow on 24 January as a bomb exploded in the arrivals hall of the Domodedovo International airport killing 36 and injuring 180 people. Domodedovo is Moscow's busiest airport and Russia's largest, located 42 kilometres southeast of the city.

The explosion was caused by a suicide attack and has been since connected with a 20-year-old man from the North Caucasus by Russia's Federal Investigative Committee. Fifteen of the victims and 58 of the severely injured were of Russian citizenship, with citizens of Germany, Austria, Ukraine, and the UK also dying the attack.

Since the attack President Dmitry Medvedev sacked several transport officials and called for an increase in security at Domodedovo.
