Face of Putin Sold for $200 000
A portrait of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has sold for $200 000 at the Art Moscow Fair, which took place in September. The portrait, entitled Putin Couture, was created by Georgian-American artist David Datuna and brought to the art fair by the Ukrainian Mironova Gallery.
The neo-pop artist was aided by Chinese-American artist Alex Guofeng Cao in the creation of this work of art, which used dozens of tiny copies of Da Vinci's Mona Lisa. Putin Couture was sold to an anonymous Russian businessman for double its original $100 000 asking price.
The participants of the Art Moscow fair sold artworks worth $4.6 million this year.
