Editor's review
Plays by Polish national hero Wyspiański, as well as Shaw, and Ibsen, were among the first to be shown at the New Theatre in Poznań in the years following its opening in 1923.
Now closing in on its 100th birthday, it is nevertheless known as Teatr Nowy, and continues to put on some of the most popular foreign and international plays.
Each season there are around 500 performances, which together draw an astonishing 80,000 viewers per year. That's quite a feat for a cast and crew who barely number 100.
With three stages, there is always something of interest going on, and audiences are often intrigued to learn that all of the set-building, costume-making etc goes on in the theatre's own workshops.
