There is much to recommend this museum, which also presents the history of the town of Śmiełów. The building alone, a palace dating from the end of 18th century, is a sumptuous visual feast. Yet for Poles and tourists alike, the reason for visiting is the connection with the Polish Shakespeare Mickiewicz. For it was there that the poet made many close acquaintances, and from which he drew influence for some of his greatest works, including the poem Pan Tadeusz.
